I'm going to recount some of the contributions at a recent book launch that I attended. I was one of the speakers, but it was what two others said that value retelling. This is because much of what we are told, and which a huge number of people believe almost verbatim, is actually skewed and misrepresentative of reality. Part of the reason for people being suckered in, is because those they listen to are apparently blessed with the tag of being knowledgeable or in authority.  Apparently.  But from where does it stem, and who is pulling their strings?

The book being launched was "Dirty Medicine, the Handbook" by Martin J Walker. http://www.slingshotpublications.com/ the two speakers whose contributions I highly valued, apart from Martin, were Patrick Holford and Carole Boyce.  Oh, and apart from myself....!

What did Patrick say? One area he finds disgraceful is the willy-nilly dispensation of antidepressants. He referred to them as "the Emperor's New Drugs". 10% of Americans are now regularly taking antidepressants, and the number in this country is also hugely significant. They are widely appreciated to increase suicidal feelings, by a factor of 4, within just 10 days. The widely prescribed version, SSRI’s, are now off patented, having given rise to a new generation of drug. These are now much harder to wean the patient off, the addiction risk of being significant.

It seems horrendous to me that we are allowing people to be simply hooked on a drug to try and resolve something, but which often makes their condition worse. The patients require a greater level of attention, with a much deeper understanding of what has created the problem, and a proper commitment to correct their predicament, through the use of diet and nutrition, together with a full assessment of lifestyle etc.

Patrick referred to one alternative treatment that works, and there are more things on the subject on his website. He also reminded us that dementia was the next big target for the drug barons, which includes Alzheimer's. His opinion is that the simplest solutions are not rocket science, but as they are non-patentable, the drug companies are not going to be interested in them, and therefore they won't become available to consumers. What a disgrace.

He's clearly frustrated by the organised way in which anyone who dares to question the conventional pharmaceutical wisdom is sidelined. His opinion is that over time people will take the power into their own hands, with the internet being a vital tool in self-education. Clearly there are some things on the internet that are not straightforward, and may not be wise to adopt, but please be aware that you'll find plenty of things within the pharmaceutical world for which the outcomes are as bad or worse.

Carole Boyce spoke very eloquently about her film that she's just put together, all about the adoption and use of homoeopathy around the world. People might like to think that it isn't "mainstream", but rest assured that large areas of the world cannot afford any conventional medication, and homoeopathy's efficacious ways have been a godsend to them. The film she's made has many interviews with these people, all very heartwarming.

She has other projects in the pipeline, but because of their sensitivity, and the fact that she is being targeted by the pharmaceutical industry, means that we'll have to wait until launch day to find out what any of these are. It continues to shock her as to how readily people have been doing their best to undermine what she is doing, but at least she now has the film. Martin spoke with reference to his book, and talked about the pharmaceutical opposition he's had at every turn of the screw. As soon as the book was launched, the vitriol and bile began pouring forth.

He had done all the right things to ensure that Google picked it up, people unknown to him began messing up the search engines to ensure he was put down a long way off page 1, more like page 3.

During the production phase of the book, George Galloway, when he was still an MP, asked a Parliamentary question for Martin, regarding AIDS and HIV. It was very much critical of the pharmaceutical industry. For many weeks afterwards he began getting phone calls at 3a.m., when nobody was on the end of the phone, although some of them were quoting a particular drug, etc. Nobody can conclusively say there was a connection, but he's far from the first person to have suffered in that way. The ongoing harassment led him to quit the case, and miraculously the phone calls stopped immediately!

Last year there was a crazy case in America, where cherry producers had come to appreciate, aided by some scientists, that the "red" part of a cherry might have been beneficial for those with cancer. The American Food and Drug Administration promptly told them to either licence the cherries as medicine, or shut up. When one thinks that Hippocrates, widely considered to have been the "father of medicine" said "let food be thy medicine, and medicine be thy food", I'm sure he didn't have in mind licensing any food as a medicine, just advising people to ensure they ate a healthy, complete, highly mineralised and nutritious diet in order to ensure that their own bodies were getting all the nutrition they could need, to maintain themselves in the best of health.

Everything that we're doing in producing wheatgrass juice, and broccoli sprout juices, is aimed at providing you, the consumer, with the very best nutrition. Furthermore, we're not treating it in any way to denigrate its nutritional value, so you get it exactly as it was grown. Our bodies are designed to be fed with food that hasn't been adulterated. When our genetic code was created, you can be fairly sure that nobody knew that we were going to cook (overcook in most cases) our food, or worse still mutilate it with microwaves, pasteurisation etc.

Stay natural, eat fresh and raw, be healthy.
