What motivates dietary changes?

I’ll wager that this is the biggest battleground that we all individually face, every single day of our lives. Temptation is laid before us every time we read about food, watch a food programme, go shopping for food, etc. In our hearts we (but sadly, not all people by a long way) know that the more heavily advertised something is within the food world, the possibility exists that it may be the least good for us. Just think about all the adverts for fast food, sugary drinks and confectionery.

Without doubt, one of the trickiest subjects facing everybody wanting to know what is good and what is bad in health terms, relates to the impartiality of what is being offered, and the control exerted by corporations, by those who referee research, and importantly by those who publish. Or, should I say, those who choose not to publish, thereby denying us valuable information.

It’s all around us, isn’t it? In everything we do. We have advertisers trying to tempt us, friends, trying to persuade us to do something with them, or we just plain old succumb to our inner weaknesses!

I’m often asked how the wheatgrass and broccoli sprout juice Tonic Attack is marketing can have such long shelf life without any pasteurisation. Without giving away the whole game, this is roughly what happens.

Hardly a day seems to pass, when we do read a headline that says something like “Doctors pushing for new cures for cancer”.

What do you read in the media about health? Which media? There tends to be a huge bias towards “modern science” and a dearth of interest in what we might call “conventional wisdom”, or even more potentially controversially “alternative perspectives and options”.

I am always keen to bring new information to everybody about the power of broccoli, and here is a great piece of research that was recently published. I’ve written before about the phenomenal power of sulphoraphane. This is the major component within broccoli which has amazing properties with regard to both maintaining your health, and recovering it when you’ve lost it.
